ABOUT ME
Teaching the Next Generation
My first experience that led me to want to become a teacher took place at Contra Costa College in Richmond California in 1990! I got a job on campus working with a Special Education Art Teacher who ran the Lifelong Learning Program for 18–22-year-old students with severe disabilities.
I assisted the students in the Ceramics class. I fell in love with the job, with art, and seeing students create amazing clay pieces. I continued my education at California State Hayward and graduated with a Fine Arts degree focusing on painting and sculpture. I continued my education with the goal of getting my master's in art and my teaching credential.  I took my CBEST in 1999! At the same time, I worked Full time in retail and was a working artist in Oakland, California. I ended up focusing on my life as a professional artist until 2019, until the pandemic hit. I have twins, my daughter if Deaf. During the pandemic she was unable to access her education for many months, during which time I homeschooled her and her brother. I started studying for the CSET tests during this time and applied to Sonoma State University to the Single Subject Art Credential Program. I have been teaching art as an intern at San Rafael High School since January 2022. It has been one of the best experiences of my life! I am now in the Special Education Credential program At SSU and will graduate in 2023, at which time I will have accomplished my long time dream of being a special education art teacher!
